Family-Style Mixed Greens Recipe
- Nutritious mustard and turnip greens are a staple of Grandma's soulful Southern kitchen. Flavored with Steak Grilling Blend and slowly simmered on the stovetop, it's the perfect accompaniment to a special dinner.

Ingredients
- Green, white or red onions, chopped or sliced (optional)
- 1/2 tsp paprika
- 1/2 tsp celery seed
- 2 tbsp granulated sugar
- Cider vinegar (optional)
- 2 tsp vegetable oil
- 1 tsp Steak Grilling Blend
- 1 tbsp Steak Grilling Blend
- Tomato, chopped (optional)
- 1 1/2 lb mixed greens (mustard and turnip), cleaned, torn in bite-size pieces
- 12 oz smoked ham hock
Directions
- Combine 1 teaspoon Steak Grilling Blend, paprika and celery seed.
- Coat ham hock with Steak Grilling Blend mixture.
- Heat oil in 4-quart Dutch oven; sear ham hock 3 to 4 minutes on each side.
- Add remaining Steak Grilling Blend and celery seed.
- Reduce heat; cover, simmer 1 hour, or until ham hock is tender.
- Clean greens and tear them into bite-size pieces.
- Add greens to Dutch oven, cover.
- Continue cooking over low heat 60 to 90 minutes or to desired doneness.
- Stir in sugar.
- Remove ham hock, cut meat into pieces; mix into greens.
- Serve greens with cider vinegar and chopped tomato, if desired.
