Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground turkey
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 cup onion, finely chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 bell pepper, chopped
  • 1 can (15 oz) no-salt-added tomato sauce
  • 1 can (15 oz) no-salt-added diced tomatoes
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste (no salt added)
  • 1 tbsp Dash Italian Medley Seasoning
  • 1 lb ziti or penne pasta
  • 1 cup part-skim ricotta cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese 
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese 
  • Fresh basil or parsley for garnish 

Directions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F . Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Cook the ziti or penne pasta according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
  2. Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the finely chopped onion and cook for about 3-4 minutes until translucent. Add the minced garlic and chopped bell pepper, cooking for another 2-3 minutes.
  3. Add the ground turkey to the skillet, breaking it up with a spoon, and cook until it is no longer pink, about 5-7 minutes. Stir in the no-salt-added tomato sauce, no-salt-added diced tomatoes, tomato paste  Dash Italian Medley  Seasoning. Simmer for about 10 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.
  4. In a large mixing bowl, combine the cooked pasta and ground turkey sauce. Mix well. Spread half of the pasta mixture into a 9×13 inch baking dish. Dollop spoonfuls of ricotta cheese evenly over the pasta. Sprinkle half of the grated Parmesan cheese and half of the shredded mozzarella cheese over the ricotta. Top with the remaining pasta mixture. Sprinkle the remaining Parmesan cheese and mozzarella cheese over the top.
  5. Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 20 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly and the top is lightly browned.
  6. Remove from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes. Garnish with fresh basil or parsley and enjoy!
